This research clinic, located in the Inland Empire region of Southern California, is dedicated to developing pharmacotherapies to treat stimulant dependence. Staff members include a project coordinator and research nurse, a research assistant, and a cognitive behavioral therapist. Study physicians visit the site weekly to enroll and monitor the progress and medical status of participants. Recent Phase II clinical trials conducted at this site include placebo controlled, randomized studies of gabapentin, baclofen, sertraline and bupropion for methamphetamine dependence. Currently a Phase II trial of modafinil is ongoing at the site. For these studies, participants receive contingency management and cognitive behavioral therapy in conjunction with the study drug. These studies are also being run concurrently at the FLOW site in Hollywood, California. The facilities at the Rancho Cucamonga clinic site include a waiting room, three multi-use project rooms, a medical exam room and laboratory, and restroom. Approximately 80 research participants are enrolled into each study per year, with up to 200 additional individuals receiving evaluation services. Staff are trained in the administration of drug use testing, neurocognitive, and behavioral measures.

This project is funded by a NIDA P50 grant (DA18185, PI: Shoptaw). Additional Phase I studies on rivastigmine and GVG under this same grant are being conducted at the UCLA General Clinical Research Center at the UCLA Medical Center.
