Research and Clinical Trials

The UCLA Substance Abuse Pharmacotherapy Unit is an esteemed group of doctors and researchers working to find solutions to medical and public health issues surrounding drug addiction.

Through clinical trials and research activities sponsored by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, UCLA SARx continues to make advancements in the treatment of addiction.

Currently, there are two clinical trials being conducted by our group in the Los Angeles area, to of which are actively recruiting participants.

We are currently enrolling subjects in a Phase II trial to explore if varenicline is effective in helping people to stop using methamphetamine.  You can find out more about this trial here: Phase II trial of varenicline for meth dependence.

The safety interaction trial for ibudilast is a Phase I trial designed to determine whether the medication is safe for use as a potential treatment for methamphetamine-dependent people. You can find out more about this trial by clicking on this link:  Safety Interaction Trial Ibudilast and Methamphetamine
