About

The UCLA Substance Abuse Pharmacotherapy Unit (SARx) is working to advance medical treatments for addiction through:

Research- including clinical trials of potential new anti-addiction medications for the treatment of methamphetamine dependence

Treatment Services- including medical treatment for addiction, with anti-addiction medications if appropriate, in confidential primary care clinic settings

Recent advances in scientific research have increased our understanding of the neurobiological basis of addiction.

As a result, addiction is now recognized as a chronic medical condition, with both biological/medical and psychological/social aspects, and new anti-addiction medications are now available, allowing addiction treatment to be integrated into mainstream medical care.

UCLA SARx is part of The Center for Behavioral and Addiction Medicine (CBAM) within the Department of Family Medicine at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine, Los Angeles, California.
