The UCLA Substance Abuse Pharmacotherapy Unit is dedicated to the discovery, development, and dissemination of effective medications for the treatment of addiction. Recent advances in scientific research have increased our understanding of the neurobiological basis of addiction. As a result, addiction is now recognized as a chronic medical condition, with both biological/medical and psychological/social aspects, and new anti-addiction medications are now available, allowing addiction treatment to be integrated into mainstream medical care.
